I have used just standard household cotton string, which you can buy in any DIY shops, medium weight which is around aran weight, a 5mm crochet hook and fabric dye, if you want to change colour.
The pattern is just standard Afghan Square…

very pretty love the design
How fun
This is too pretty and should be tossed over the couch!
Not sure how practical or safe this would be. I would be afraid it would slide on the tiled floor without rubber backing.
You can buy the rug backing at Wal-Mart
I want this Amanda

What kind of yarn that can stay under water?
I am planning on making this with cotton yarn. What a great idea for a nice new bathmat of your own sizing.
Kim Pease can you make this?
Thank you
I think it is meant to be the mat you stand on when you step out of the bath. I should think cotton would be the way to go.
I need one of these.
I’m gonna try this. Love it!!
Wonderful….. enjoy

well that’s not even logical – wouldn’t absorb anything – any drips from getting out of the shower would end up on the floor underneath
Maybe if it was attached to the top of a regular bath mat? On its own it doesn’t seem useful
I think it is a great idea. Made from cotton string and you can dye it to your own choosing. The woman who designed it lined the back with a linen fabric. But personally, I dry off before stepping out of the shower so as not to drip all over my mats and floor. Leave the water in the shower. 😉
.. it would be OK as a decorator touch ‘just for looks’ but would never work well as a real bath mat..
For me it would need a non slip fabric underneath! It would be different ….a talking piece!
would make a nice bathroom mat but not for standing on after getting out of the bath/shower – either needs to be lined or use another mat underneath
