[Video Tutorial] Learn A New Crochet Stitch: Foundation Double Crochet Stitch

The Foundation Double Crochet Stitch (fdc) also called chainless foundation for double crochet, allows you to start your project without making the chain before. You actually make your chain and your double croche simultaneously, as you go. You can use the chainless foundation in your patterns, as you\'ll see in the video below, there is really no much difference in the end result when using the traditional way and this chainless foundation, the only difference is that the chainless foundation is a bit stretchier.

For a better demonstration and understanding on how to work this stitch, Maggie Weldon of Maggie Crochet uses a rope which is brilliant. You can clearly and easily see how the Foundation Double Crochet Stitch is done and follow help directions with easiness.

Got inspired? Happy day crocheting!

  1. I dont like this – I LOVE this!!! (I find it a pain to count the chains then having to re-count them whole making an afghan and then sometimes missing a chain and having to start over. Sometimes the chain twists also. This way I wont have to do that any more)

  2. Am attempting this right now for a project I am doing……..I like the video tutorials when I need help with a stitch but they go so fast and by the time I stop the video to catch up I have to back it up, hell it takes me an hour to watch a 9 minute tutorial……..LOLOL

  3. Call me old fashioned….maybe because I’ve been crocheting since I was 8 and that was many years ago, but I do not like working this stich. I still do my foundation stitches as always.
