Materials and Finished Blanket Sizes:
- Light Weight Baby Yarn: The yarn I used is Bernat Softee baby yarn. I made sample blankets in a couple of different colors.My preemie-sized sample was crocheted using the color called “Pink,” which is perfect for a baby girl. My newborn-sized blanket was crocheted using the “Antique White” color, which works well for either baby boys or girls. Feel free to use a different color; if crocheted in a boy-friendly color, this blanket would also be ideal for baby boys. If you aren't sure of the baby's gender, pick a neutral color that could work either way — the mint green color would be a nice choice, as would the white color. For best results, make sure all skeins are from the same dye lot.This yarn is rated as a “3” on the Craft Yarn Council's yarn weight system. This weight is also known as “light worsted,” “DK,” or “Double Knitting.” According to the yarn label, the manufacturer also labels it as “Sport DK,” “Tricot Léger,” and “Jersey Ligero.”
- Preemie Size: My sample blanket measures about 26 inches wide by 34 inches long. This measurement was taken without any edging; if you wish to add an edging, your finished blanket will be a bit bigger.You will need 2 balls / 10 oz / 280 g of yarn for the blanket itself, plus more for crocheting your gauge swatch. So if you crochet your blanket using Bernat Softee, you'll need to get 3 5 oz skeins of yarn. See pictures of the pink crochet baby blanket for an example of how this blanket looks.As far as yardage goes, you'll need about 724 yards / 662 meters for the blanket itself, plus more for your gauge swatch.
- Newborn / Receiving Blanket Size: My sample blanket is 30 inches square. You could make yours a bit longer — around 34 inches long — if you prefer.You will need 2-3 of the 5 oz balls of Bernat Softee for this size. My sample blanket measures about 30 inches square, and I used exactly two balls with none left over. If you'd like to work a gauge swatch, or make your blanket longer, you'll need a third ball of this yarn.
- Toddler Size: Finished size is about 36 inches by 44 inches.I estimate that you'll need 4 of the 5 oz balls of Bernat Softee to crochet this size.
- Crochet Hook: I used a size I crochet hook to make my sample baby blankets. You might need a different size hook to achieve the correct gauge.
- Tapestry Needle: You'll use this for weaving in ends when you are finished crocheting your blanket.
- Safety Pin: You'll need a stitch marker or safety pin for temporarily marking a stitch at the beginning of your work.

I got the pattern & bookmarked the page. I noticed the pattern calls for SC but in the video she is using DC. I’m $#%&!@*uming the pattern is written in UK terms. In UK terms, a sc is a DC in American terms.

Pretty. Did you try the pattern I was using? Chain 126, first row all single crochet. 3rd ch from beg 1 double crochet, 1 single crochet. Skip st 1 dbl crocet, 1 single crochet. Skip stitch repeat to end of row. Chain 2 turn, 1 dbl, 2 single in first stitch. Skip one? repeat pattern to end, repeat pattern. Then decide on a border.

Ummm, I made one out of 100% cotton #4 Lilly’s Sugar and Cream. It turned out very stretchy. Could be blocked, but still not sure it will ever hold up its square great. I checked, I did all the stitches right, even in the turns, just the nature of the cotton. I could have used a smaller hook, but again then more struggle for my hands ( I avoid that). Will probably be the babies favorite blanket!

Baby Blanket Pattern Instructions:
Ch 105 (121, 145).
Row 1: Place a safety pin or other marker in the first ch from your hook. sc in 3rd ch from hook. [ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch.] Rep across entire row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: [sc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1.] Rep the sequence in brackets across the rest of the row. At the end of the row, work a sc st into the st where you placed the marker; you can remove the marker before working the stitch. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 3 and Up: The rest of the rows are all exactly the same as row 2, with one minor difference: at the end of the row you’ll work your last sc st into the turning chain of the previous row. Rep this row until the baby blanket is the length you want it to be.
Finishing the Baby Blanket:
When you are satisfied that the baby blanket is the length you want it to be, cut the yarn leaving an extra long length of yarn (around six inches long or more.) Thread your tapestry needle using this end of yarn and use the needle to weave the loose end of yarn into the blanket. Repeat with any other loose ends you may have hanging from the blanket.
I think this pattern is nice without any edging at all, especially if you are making a blanket for a baby boy. Either way, the design is chic and simple, and an edging is not a necessity. However, you can feel free to add an edging if you want to. If you decide to add an edging, here are some free patterns you can look at. Please note that these edgings may need some adapting to work well with this blanket; the stitch pattern used for the blanket pulls in a bit more than usual.

I’ve also known this stitch as the moss or granite stitch. I’m using it for thermometer blanket adding a row a day. Color based on temperature high of the day.

Sure. Let me find the pic that started this idea and I’ll post it. However it was a double crochet and felt the stitch they used would result in a super tall blanket. Even with single crochet, at 365 days, it will be 7 1/2 feet tall.
I also added Royal blue to this thermometer for any days 100 or higher.

Mallarie-Patrick McCoy, do you mean for the width? I don’t remember as I started two at the same time. This one is about the width of a queen size. The other was the width of a cal King. Because of how tall it turns out, I would recommend going with queen size width.

Mine would be pretty much a red and orange blanket with a few greens on the ends… Florida
I live in So Cal so mine would have been the same. So I let my mom pick a city for this Blanket and she picked Geneva Ohio as she is from there. For my king size blanket, I picked Rome, Ga where I lived for 6 years. Both have much more variety. If you want more color, pick a city that means something to you that has more of the 4 seasons. That’s what I did. I keep asking my friends in Rome to have a little blizzard for me do that I can get the purple in my blanket too. It’s so beautiful in the Ohio one.

I think what I did is a round of SC and three rounds of skip 3, 3DC in next stitch. Corners involved 3DC ch2 (I think) 3DC in corner stitch. Unfortunately, I don’t have the blanket with me.

I can’t get it to download or open
All you have to do is click the link others have posted a million times. There are 5 patterns on that page, so don’t go scrolling all the way down, as it is the FIRST ONE – THE ONE THAT STARTS WITH THE PINK PICTURE OF THE BABY BLANKET!. You do have to have the sheer animal cunning it takes to scroll down though, as the pattern is not the first thing printed. It first talks about skill levels, yarn choices, different sizes to make and how much yarn for each, the tools you will need for this project, crochet abreviations, gauge (don’t bother, not needed for a blanket), design notes AND THEN THE 4 ROWS OF INSTRUCTIONS. DO NOT WATCH THE VIDEO, IT IS FOR THE *OTHER* BLANKET ON THIS PAGE! It is finished by the time I scroll 1/4 of the way down the page. If you see purple words saying RELATED or MORE FROM THE WEB, you just passed it. SIMPLE CROCHET SCARF PATTERN COMES UP NEXT. By the way, there is nothing to click on there, that’s the page, and no download button. If I right click on the pattern, I can come up with a PRINT command, but it takes pages 1-4 to print all the words about this pattern – it really goes on way too long like when you are trying to write a 4 page book report because you need to fill that many pages, but you could have said it in 1 page. So, my best advice is to copy and paste the part of the pattern that is important – size hook & yarn you can just type that in yourself and save too many words, then the sizes and the 4 rows of pattern. I do this all the time, you do have to copy and paste the pink blanket pic in separately, because pics and words can’t copy at the same time. This is the MOSS STITCH, many videos on youtube, just search for them there. There are many videos and each seems to have a different count for how to make this stitch, which is annoying. I just made something that required you to have an even count, and start crocheting into the 4th stitch from the hook, with a ch 2 turning chain, then into the first space, skipping each sc by chaining over it. So this pattern is only 2 stitches, sc and ch 1 for the pattern itself. Others I’ve watched say to use a different stitch from the hook. Only one other video I watched said to use an uneven count, could have something to do with which stitch they go in, because in the end, you want to finish on the sc st.
If all you see is ads, then it could be a problem with if you are using a phone or tablet and it’s loading things in a streamlined view, rather than small ads at the right, like I see on my laptop. Not all pages on the internet work with all devices. This pattern could easily have filled one page, if the info was just given, instead of trying to right a full paragraph about every element.

This is my next blanket for my great grandchild. I’m trying to finish one I started about a month ago and doing it in a basket weave. By the time I’m done it will have close to 3,000 thousand yards of 4 ply yarn but so so heavy and warm to keep him toasty warm in Colorado this winter

I’ve made this blanket several times. It’s really pretty & very easy, I’ve also done it by adding a row of double crochet after 5 rows of the single crochet. Changes it up a bit & I think it looks really nice that way too.

I think it’s a great idea! From Northern California we don’t really get daily high temperatures below 50°F but we get plenty over 89°F and close to 110°F!
I’m going to adapt the scale to the temperatures of my area so I can still have the range of colors.

I made this blanket years ago it is easy and simple It came from a lady that had it on her web site it is called SERENITY Blanket I would have to look at the pattern and see who wrote this. I mean this was like 5 years ago.

The stitch is called a Moss stitch. Chained one skip one all the way across and ch one and the end and turn.

Every time I go into site for the easy baby blanket I can get to the area where give detail instruction in the size hook, yarn & other things about the blanket but when I click on the area to get the blanket instructions it takes me to a car commercial (or video advertising) cannot get to blanket instructions . Tried several times. Will try again at a later time. I have notice that several others were having the same problem, I did try using the info you have given them , but after several try’s I gave up.
Blanket Sizes: Preemie – Toddler
This crochet baby blanket pattern is written for three sizes: preemie, newborn and toddler. Instructions are written for the smallest size, and changes for the larger sizes are noted in parentheses.
Preemie Size: The smallest blanket measures about 26 inches wide by 34 inches long. This measurement was taken without any edging; if you wish to add an edging, your finished blanket will obviously be a little bit bigger. You will need 2 balls / 10 oz / 280 g of yarn for the blanket itself, plus more for crocheting your gauge swatch. So if you crochet your blanket using Bernat Softee, you’ll need to get 3 5-oz skeins of yarn to complete this project. As far as yardage goes, you’ll need about 724 yards / 662 meters for the blanket itself, plus more for your gauge swatch.
Newborn / Receiving Blanket Size: The mid-sized blanket is 30 inches square. It could be made a little bit longer as well, if you prefer a more rectangular shape for the blanket. If so, aim for 3″ x 34″. You will need 2-3 of the 5 oz balls of Bernat Softee for this size. 2 balls is likely to be just enough or not quite enough depending on how tightly you crochet. Buy the third ball just in case you need it.
Toddler Size: The largest of the blankets is about 36 inches by 44 inches. You’ll need 4 of the 5 oz balls of Bernat Softee to crochet this size.
Additional Materials Required
Crochet Hook: The pattern calls for a size I crochet hook. You might need a slightly different size hook to achieve the correct gauge.
Tapestry Needle: You’ll use this for weaving in ends when you are finished crocheting your blanket.
Safety Pin: You’ll need a stitch marker or safety pin for temporarily marking a stitch at the beginning of your work.
Abbreviations Used in This Pattern:
ch = chain
ch-1 sp = chain-1 space, the space formed when you crocheted a chain stitch in the previous row
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
st = stitch
Gauge:
Stitch gauge: 4 stitches = 1 inch when crocheting the stitch pattern as instructed below.
Row gauge: The row gauge is not important for this pattern.
Crochet a Gauge Swatch:
To check your gauge, you’ll want to crochet a gauge swatch as follows: Work a starting chain of 25 stitches and crochet using the blanket pattern instructions until your piece is square. End off. Measure your swatch to see how many stitches per inch you are crocheting. Compare your gauge against that recommended in the pattern (above). If you are crocheting fewer stitches per inch than recommended, you might want to consider starting over with a smaller crochet hook; if you are crocheting more stitches per inch, you might want to start over using a larger hook.
The swatching process is necessary because you want your baby blanket to be a useable size. If your gauge is drastically different, your baby blanket could turn out to be way too large, or way too small. Another worry: if your blanket is significantly wider than the suggested size, you risk running out of yarn before you are finished crocheting. That said, if you have plenty of yarn and you don’t care specifically about the finished size of the blanket then feel free to skip this step.
Design Notes:
In the pattern directions you’ll be instructed to crochet into the ch-1 spaces. If you have difficulty finding these — sometimes they seem to vanish — try carefully poking your finger at the row of stitches from back to front. It can be easier to locate the spaces by touch than it is by sight.
Baby Blanket Pattern Instructions:
Ch 105 (121, 145). Remember, the instructions are for the small size (with the medium, large in the parenthesis).
Row 1: Place a safety pin or other marker in the first ch from your hook. Sc in 3rd ch from hook. [Ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch.] Rep across entire row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: [Sc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1.] Rep the sequence in brackets across the rest of the row. At the end of the row, work a sc st into the st where you placed the marker; you can remove the marker before working the stitch. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 3 and Up: The rest of the rows are all exactly the same as row 2, with one minor difference: at the end of the row you’ll work your last sc st into the turning chain of the previous row. Rep this row until the baby blanket is the length you want it to be.
Finishing the Baby Blanket:
When you are satisfied that the baby blanket is the length you want it to be, cut the yarn, leaving an extra long length of yarn (approximately six inches.) Thread your tapestry needle using this end of yarn and use the needle to weave the loose end of yarn into the blanket. Repeat with any other loose ends you may have hanging from the blanket (which occur when you switch from one ball of yarn to the next.)
This crochet pattern works fine without any additional edging and can be considered complete at this stage. However, you can feel free to add an edging if you want to. There are many baby blanket edgings to choose from. A simple single crochet stitch around the entire edge of the blanket is an easy choice that goes well with the single crochet design in this pattern.

I’m working on one for 2017. I am using a half double crochet and grabbing the back Loop when I switch colors. So it’s giving it a texturized look. The dark color is navy blue sorry my lighting is terrible with the children still sleeping I don’t want to turn too many lights on. I started out with 240 chains and it will fit a queen size bed. The pattern looks easy to do. I just finished a baby blanket using the thick soft blanket yarn and a Q hook which sometimes cramped my hand, the yarn and hook used in this blanket looks like a relaxing project. I am process oriented instead of quick project, I usually like to take my time and not hurry.
The preemie size would work great for a newborn car seat.

I knitted a temperature scars for last year..1 row for the high and 1 for the low. Then 1 row of white to separate the months. I added fringe to act as a temperature gauge.

Stephanie Estes Key is this the same as the Fastest Easiest blanket? I just made a dish cloth using the sc & ch but mine looks different. If it is the same pattern, the only thing I can think of is that I put the sc in the actual ch space hole and maybe should have placed it just in the top st. ??
Sc in every other stitch and ch 1 every time after you SC
